Thangassery Beach, located 5 km from Kollam town, is a seaside village of historic importance. Besides the 144-feet high Thangaserry Lighthouse which is open to visitors everyday, there are ruins of an old Portugese Fort and churches built in the 18th century near the beach.

Thangasseri Lighthouse on the seashore is used for guiding lost fishermen and navigators in the sea. It was built in the year 1902. The light house is 144 feet tall. Thangasseri Lighthouse is open for public visits from 5.30-7.30 pm in the evening. Thangasseri Fort is another major tourist attraction. It has the ruins of a few Portuguese and Dutch Forts of the bygone ages.
